Landing Page Video: Which Format and Length Convert Best
Which video format and length work on a landing page: offer video, short demo or testimonial, where to place it and how to shoot it in a single session.
Putting a video on a landing page guarantees nothing. A long video with no hook and poor image quality makes the visitor leave. A short, clear one designed for the buying decision does part of the selling for you.
I direct content sessions at A0Studios, our penthouse at Ronda de Atocha 16, in central Madrid. I come from the world of ads, so I look at every landing page video with one question: what does the visitor need to decide in the next 60 seconds?

Why video changes behavior on a landing page
A landing page has only a few seconds to explain who you are, what you offer and why to trust you. Text does that well for people who read carefully. Video reaches those who scan: they see a face, hear a voice and get the brand's tone before reading anything.
Video works best when the offer needs trust: high-ticket services, consulting, clinics, training or software with a demo. If you sell something for 15 euros that a photo explains, video is usually overkill.
That said, there's no magic conversion number that works for everyone. It depends on the offer, the traffic and the message. What does hold up is that a short, well-directed piece almost never hurts, and a long piece with no structure almost always does.
How to choose the right format and length
Offer video: 60 to 90 seconds at the top
This one explains who you are and what problem you solve. The structure I use: a 5-second hook with the problem, the solution in two sentences, proof and the next step. Between 60 and 90 seconds is usually enough. If you need more, you're probably trying to tell two messages in one video.
Short demo: 30 to 60 seconds next to the button
If you sell a product or a service with a process, show how it works instead of describing it. A 45-second demo with the screen or the product in close-up answers the question of what exactly the customer gets. Place it near the action button, not at the bottom of the page.
Testimonial: 30 to 45 seconds, mid-page
A testimonial works when it answers a specific objection: price, timing or result. Keep it short, with the person looking at the camera and no music covering the voice. Two or three 30-second ones work better than a single two-minute one.

Common mistakes
- Autoplay with sound: the browser usually blocks it and, if it doesn't, it startles the visitor. Better to autoplay muted with subtitles, or start on click.
- Opening with an animated logo and a company introduction instead of the customer's problem.
- Uploading a heavy, uncompressed file and slowing down page load, which hurts conversion and SEO.
- One video for all traffic, without adapting the message to the ad or campaign the visitor comes from.
- Recording on a phone in the office, with echo and bad light, for a service that charges well.
- Forgetting the final call to action: what the visitor should do after watching.
How we shoot it in one session
In a 3-hour session at A0Studios you can get the offer video, the demo and 3 testimonials, with two lavalier microphones and a Sony A7 camera in two framings. It's then edited in DaVinci Resolve and exported in horizontal and vertical versions, so the same session serves your landing page and your Meta or TikTok ads.
The difference isn't just the space. I direct the session with a sales mindset: which line opens, which proof is shown and where we cut. That direction is what separates a beautiful video from one that helps the visitor click the button.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a landing page video be?
For the offer video, between 60 and 90 seconds. For demos, between 30 and 60. For testimonials, between 30 and 45. If the message doesn't fit, it usually means it should be split into two pieces.
Does video slow down the landing page and hurt SEO?
It can if you upload a heavy, uncompressed file. Use a compressed video, lazy loading or a cover image that loads the player only on click. That way you don't lose speed.
Is horizontal or vertical video better on the landing page?
It depends on where the traffic comes from. If it comes mostly from mobile, from Instagram or TikTok ads, vertical fits better. For desktop, horizontal. In a single session you can shoot both framings.
Do I need a studio or is shooting in the office enough?
The office is fine for internal tests, but if the service is high-ticket, image and sound matter. A studio gives you controlled light, clean audio and direction, and saves retakes.
