How to Prepare a Product Launch Before Recording in a Studio

By Dani Acero, Founder & Filmmaker

How to prepare a product launch for a studio shoot: what to lock down first, which pieces to record and how to leave with material for organic and ads.

A launch isn't recorded the day you announce it. It's recorded earlier, calmly, and spread across pieces over the following weeks. If you arrive at the studio without being clear on what you're selling, to whom and with what promise, you pay for camera hours to decide things that could be settled in a phone call.

At A0Studios we see the difference from the very first minute. Someone who arrives with the message locked records 12 or 15 useful pieces in one session. Someone who arrives improvising spends half the morning hunting for the angle. This is what's worth having done before you book.

Why preparing the shoot matters

A launch has a date, and the date doesn't move. If the material arrives late, the campaign goes out with half-finished pieces or gets delayed. And every day of delay is a day without sales, with the ad budget sitting there waiting.

On top of that, a launch needs more pieces than a normal content day. You need videos for the website, for launch organic, for Meta and TikTok ads and, if the product calls for it, a VSL. All of that can be recorded in a single session if it's planned. If it isn't, you end up repeating work.

How to prepare properly

Lock the message before you record

You need one sentence that says what problem the product solves, for whom and why now. If it doesn't fit in two lines, it isn't ready yet. Write it, read it aloud and check that someone outside the product understands it the first time.

Define the pieces and where each one will live

Make a list of every piece and its destination: one main video for the website, 5 or 6 vertical clips for social, 3 or 4 ad variants with different hooks and, if relevant, a VSL. With that list the studio can size the time. A 3-hour session goes a long way when every shot has an intended use.

Bring the product and the supporting material

If the product is physical, bring at least two clean units, one in use and its packaging. If it's digital or a service, prepare screenshots, a rehearsed demo and the data you're able to show. And don't forget the script: one page per piece, with the hook written out, not a ten-page document.

Common mistakes before a launch

  • Booking the studio without the message locked and deciding it in front of the camera.
  • Recording a single long piece and not thinking about the vertical cuts social media needs.
  • Leaving the ads for later, when there's no production budget or time left.
  • Showing up with a single spokesperson and no plan B if that person freezes or can't make it.
  • Recording without the offer, price or date defined, and having to reshoot because of a change.
  • Thinking only about aesthetics and forgetting the hook in the first 3 seconds.

How we approach it at A0Studios

Before the session we have a short call to lock the message, the pieces and the destination of each one. In the penthouse we shoot with a Sony A7 in vertical and horizontal, and we prepare the hook variants that are later tested on Meta and TikTok. Editing is done in DaVinci Resolve.

We don't just sell the space. I direct the session with a sales mindset: what proof to show, which line opens an ad and which clip works best organically. That direction is what turns a day of shooting into a usable launch campaign.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book a launch session?

Ideally 3 or 4 weeks before the launch date. That leaves room to prepare scripts, record, edit and, if you want, test ads before the campaign starts.

How many pieces can be recorded in one session?

With a 3-hour session and well-prepared material, between 12 and 15 pieces across main videos, social clips and ad variants. It depends on how complex the product is and how many people appear on camera.

Does the product have to be finished before recording?

For a physical product, yes: it's best to shoot it with its final finish. For a digital product or a service, having the offer and the demo locked is enough. What can't change after recording is the message, the price and the date.

Can I record the ads in the same session as the organic content?

Yes, and it's the most efficient way. You record the same messages with different approaches: more direct and offer-led for paid, closer and more personal for organic. That way you have variants to test without booking again.
