How to Structure a Corporate Video Script in Under 5 Minutes
How to write a short corporate video script: one single message, three blocks and a timed read-through before recording at A0Studios.
When a company brings us the script for a corporate video, the same thing almost always happens: they want to explain everything the company does in a single piece, and the result is eight minutes of video that nobody finishes. The problem is not the camera or the studio. The script is trying to cover too much. A corporate video longer than five minutes loses most of its audience before minute three, so the right question is not how much we need to record, but what we can leave out.
At A0Studios we help structure the script before any camera is turned on. A short, well-built corporate video says more than a long one that tries to cover everything, because it forces you to decide what matters. This is what we review with each client before the recording session.

What a short script is and why it matters
A video under five minutes gets watched in full. A ten-minute one, in most cases, does not. Attention drops fast after the first minute and keeps dropping with every minute that passes, so every extra minute in the script is audience lost before the close. Cutting the script is not making a worse summary. It forces you to decide which message you want the viewer to remember when they finish.
It also changes the production cost. A five-minute script is recorded in fewer takes, needs fewer retakes if the speaker slips, and is edited faster. A long script, besides losing audience, usually means more studio hours and more editing hours for a result that fewer people end up watching.
How to do it well
Define one core message before writing a single line
Before writing the script, we ask the client to sum up in one sentence what they want the viewer to remember. If there is no clear sentence, the script will not have one either. A corporate video does not need to explain the whole company. It needs to leave one clear idea: what problem it solves, for whom, and why it does it differently from the competition. Everything else is a candidate to be left out.
Split the script into three blocks: hook, development and close
A five-minute script works better in three blocks than as one continuous speech. The hook, the first 15-20 seconds, raises the problem or the question that grabs the viewer. The development, between two and three minutes, explains the solution with concrete examples, not adjectives. The close, half a minute, makes clear what the person should do after watching the video. If a block does not fit that outline, it almost always does not belong.
Time the script out loud before recording
A script that looks short on paper can run twice as long when read aloud. At A0Studios we always ask for a timed read-through before the session, at a normal conversational pace, without rushing. If it runs past five minutes read that way, the fix is not to speak faster on camera. The fix is to cut text. Recording faster than natural shows and takes away from the message.

Common mistakes when writing a short corporate video script
- Trying to fit every service or business line into the same video instead of making separate pieces by topic.
- Writing long sentences meant to be read, not spoken: on camera they sound artificial.
- Not timing the script before recording and finding out in the studio that it runs twice as long as planned.
- Opening with the company introduction instead of the problem it solves, losing the hook in the first seconds.
- Closing without a clear call to action, leaving the viewer unsure what to do after watching.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a corporate video script be?
Between three and five minutes read aloud at a normal pace. If your company has several important messages, it is better to make two short videos than one long one that mixes them all.
Who should write the script, the company or the studio?
Ideally it is a joint script: the company brings the message and the real data, and at A0Studios we help structure it in blocks and cut what is not needed before recording.
Can you improvise instead of following a locked script?
You can work from a bullet-point script instead of fixed text if the speaker is comfortable improvising on a clear structure. What does not work is recording with no script at all, because the result tends to run long and lose its thread.
How long is a recording session for a 5-minute corporate video?
With the script timed and locked before the session, two hours in the studio are usually enough to record the video, with room for a couple of retakes per block.
A short script is not an incomplete script. It is a script that has decided what matters. If your company needs a corporate video that people watch to the end, write to us from /#contacto and we will structure it together before you book the session.
